Grant Program to Support K-12 Educators in STEM Activities
GrantID: 2918
Grant Funding Amount Low: $3,500
Deadline: Ongoing
Grant Amount High: $12,000
Summary
This program is open to formal and informal educators working at K‑12 schools, museums, nonprofits or clubs within the state (U.S. citizens required for direct funding). Educators must be based in North Dakota and the projects must serve students or involve student participation. The funds are meant to support STEM and space‑related educational activities.
One funding stream provides up to $2,500 in mini‑grants for educators to implement activities such as classroom materials, field trips, STEM challenge participation or relevant initiatives. There are also funding opportunities for competition teams (where the mentor educator can request support for materials or travel) and for educators to receive travel stipends to attend STEM or space‑education conferences (up to about $3,500 for travel/registration). In addition to funding, the program offers resources such as lesson plans, hands‑on classroom visits by STEM Ambassadors (college students), “at‑home” STEM kits, and challenge‑based opportunities.
The intent of the funding is to help educators broaden student engagement in STEM and space science, to provide hands‑on, inquiry‑based experiences aligned with real‑world space exploration, and to support underserved or rural areas. It’s ideal for teachers or mentors who want to innovate their STEM programming, take students to a STEM challenge or conference, upgrade equipment or materials, or engage students in space‑relevant work.
