Summary

This grant opportunity provides financial support to mission-driven nonprofit organizations working to improve community well-being in specific geographic regions, with an emphasis on creating long-lasting impact across multiple focus areas. The primary geographic priorities include Eastern Massachusetts and Georgetown County in South Carolina, concentrating resources where measurable community benefits are most likely to be realized. Eligible applicants are 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organizations, including those applying through acceptable fiscal sponsors, with programs or initiatives that directly serve individuals, families, and underserved communities within these regions. Most public agencies, for-profit businesses, and individual applicants are not eligible.

One category of funding provides support of up to approximately $100,000 for discrete, time-bound initiatives that address immediate community needs. These awards are typically distributed over a one-year period and are intended to help organizations deliver core services, launch targeted projects, acquire necessary equipment, or respond to unmet needs in their service areas. Applications are reviewed through multiple submission periods each year, often aligned with thematic areas such as human services, arts and culture, education, and conservation. New applicants are encouraged to begin with this level of support to establish alignment with funding priorities. Competition is strong, and proposals are evaluated based on organizational capacity, community need, and the potential for measurable impact.

For organizations with more developed strategic plans, larger funding opportunities are available, generally ranging from approximately $250,000 to $1 million, often distributed over multiple years. These funds are intended to catalyze organizational growth, support collaborations between nonprofits, expand regional programs, or facilitate operational enhancements that increase service delivery capacity. The purpose of these awards is to accelerate progress toward long-term goals, strengthen organizational models, and help nonprofits better serve their constituencies.

At the highest funding level, significant multi-million-dollar support is available for major physical development projects that substantially enhance an organization’s capacity to deliver services. This funding is directed toward construction, renovation, or expansion of facilities that improve program quality, accessibility, and community impact. Proposals are expected to include thorough planning, evidence of community support, and at least partial prior fundraising to demonstrate project feasibility and sustainability.

The overall funding priorities span health care access, education, human services, youth and amateur athletics, arts and culture, and conservation. These focus areas reflect a holistic approach to community well-being, enabling organizations to address both immediate needs and systemic challenges. While individual and business applicants are generally ineligible, certain programs may indirectly benefit smaller community groups when aligned with a nonprofit partner.

The purpose of these funds is to support organizations capable of delivering essential services and opportunities while creating sustainable, positive change in the communities they serve. Award amounts vary to accommodate the scale of the proposed work, ranging from modest one-year grants to multi-million-dollar investments in long-term capacity and infrastructure. Funding decisions prioritize measurable outcomes, strategic alignment, and the ability of organizations to achieve lasting impact in their service regions.
