Grants to Further Projects that Achieve Sustainable
GrantID: 19595
Grant Funding Amount Low: $5,000
Deadline: Ongoing
Grant Amount High: $5,000
Summary
This grant opportunity offers funding to nonprofit organizations working to improve independence, quality of life, and long-term sustainability for individuals facing significant life challenges, including visual impairment. The focus is on building capacity through programs that empower people to lead more autonomous lives while strengthening the nonprofit organizations themselves.
Eligible uses of the funds include program development, service delivery, leadership growth, adaptive recreation, and initiatives that support mental health, employment, or community belonging. There is a strong interest in projects that foster collaborative solutions and enduring, sustainable change rather than short‑term fixes.
Only nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status are eligible, and they must be based in the U.S. Importantly, to apply you must be connected to a “family grant sponsor” within the foundation; unsolicited proposals without this sponsorship are not accepted. Individual requests or for-profit entities are excluded. The foundation particularly prioritizes nonprofits serving people who are blind or visually impaired, but sponsors may also support other causes aligned with long-term independence.
There are two tiers of funding: Mini Grants (up to $5,000) for smaller or newer projects, and Regular Grants (greater than $5,000) for more mature, relationship-based initiatives.
Applications follow a quarterly cycle. Rough drafts are submitted several weeks before the final proposal, and final decisions are made after review. All grantees are required to provide a report one year after their grant award to share progress and impact.
Through this opportunity, nonprofits can access patient, flexible funding that builds their capacity, deepens their partnerships, and supports long-term outcomes for the people they serve.
