Summary

A housing-focused grant opportunity provides financial assistance to nonprofit organizations, community development groups, and public entities working to expand or improve affordable housing options within the state of Wisconsin. Funding is generally available to organizations that provide emergency shelters, transitional housing, or permanent housing solutions that serve individuals and families with limited incomes or those facing housing instability. Eligible applicants may include nonprofit organizations, housing or redevelopment authorities, cooperatives, local government entities, and tribal authorities operating within Wisconsin. Grants are not typically available to individuals or private businesses.

The program distributes approximately $2 million in total funding through competitive awards each cycle. Individual grants may vary depending on the scope of the project, with awards generally ranging from about $7,500 up to $50,000 per organization. There is typically no minimum funding request, allowing smaller community projects as well as larger facility improvement initiatives to be considered.

Funding is intended to support projects that enhance safe and stable housing for vulnerable populations. Grant funds may be used for building rehabilitation, accessibility improvements, energy-efficiency upgrades, safety improvements, and limited new construction related to housing facilities. Priority is often given to projects that expand capacity or improve living conditions for individuals experiencing homelessness, extremely low-income households, people with disabilities, and others facing housing insecurity within Wisconsin communities.
