Summary
Schools and after-school programs serving middle school students may be eligible for funding to expand access to organized athletics and provide children with a safe, supervised environment after the school day. Support is focused on programs serving students in grades 6 through 8, particularly in communities where financial resources may limit participation in sports.
Funding may be used for essential, reusable athletic equipment and uniforms, including items such as jerseys, sports equipment, protective gear, wrestling mats, and other supplies needed to maintain an ongoing program. Requests generally cannot cover coaching, transportation, facilities, shoes, socks, electronics, or other non-essential expenses. Eligible programs generally must operate after school, serve a student population with significant financial need, and have staffing, transportation, space, and secure equipment storage in place. Applicants must provide vendor quotes and recent athletic program budgets. Applications are accepted during designated periods based on the season of the sport, with reviews conducted periodically throughout the year.
