Summary

This grant is a micro-grant program offered by a university-based innovation and entrepreneurship center. It’s specifically designed for undergraduate students who are in the very early stages of starting their own business venture. Rather than supporting large-scale operations, the intent is to fund customer discovery, so that students can validate the assumptions behind their business ideas—basically, figuring out whether there’s a real market for what they’re planning.

The grant amount is modest, set at $250 per award. Eligibility is limited to currently enrolled undergraduates in good academic and financial standing, and students may receive up to two grants per academic year. Decisions are based on the quality of the application, the availability of funds, and a recommendation from a mentor at the center.

Once awarded, recipients agree to use the funds only for discovery-related expenses and report back on what they learn through regular check-ins (at 30- and 60-day intervals). The center also provides additional support: grant recipients receive a copy of a practical entrepreneurship book and access to other mentoring resources to guide their exploration.

Overall, the goal is to help students take the first, low-risk steps toward launching a venture by understanding their customers. The emphasis is not on scaling or immediate revenue, but on learning, validating, and refining ideas.
