Summary
Creative fellowship support advances storytelling about women’s experiences in Virginia. Resources give writers, artists, cultural workers, and community scholars time to research, create, and share work publicly. Supported projects can result in books, exhibits, podcasts, oral histories, digital projects, or archives. The fellowship values stories that broaden public understanding, honor women’s contributions, and engage audiences through expression.
Applicants must be adults who are United States citizens and Virginia residents. Proposals must center communities within the Commonwealth and lead to a presentation or program. The opportunity welcomes applicants from historically marginalized communities and those facing funding barriers. Fellows commit substantial time to their subject over a six- or twelve-month period and collaborate on a public event. Applications include a project proposal, résumé or curriculum vitae, and recommendations. Selection considers the project’s relevance, clarity, engagement, feasibility, and potential to make women’s histories and lived experiences more visible, accessible, and meaningful across Virginia.
