Summary
This funding program supports organizations that are working to build stronger, more equitable communities—particularly in and around a major Midwestern city. The grants are available to nonprofit organizations and possibly governmental units, with preference given to those advancing work in areas like justice and democracy, arts and culture, education, neighborhoods and economic inclusion, or climate and environmental equity. Projects that aim to unite people, dismantle racial or economic barriers, strengthen civic engagement, or re‑imagine local infrastructure or environment are especially aligned.
Applicants may propose uses of funds such as capacity building, operating support, strategic planning, policy and advocacy work, program design or expansion, and other initiatives that underpin long‑term systems change rather than simply one‑time events. The intent is to fund efforts that can serve as models, leverage additional resources, or engage historically under‑invested communities. Though primarily rooted in a specific city and state, the scope may extend to statewide or regional efforts when the work connects to the foundation’s core themes.
Awards vary significantly by project scope and ambition—some grants are modest, others stretch to six‑figure commitments, and several awards span multiple years. The opportunity is offered three times each year, with proposal deadlines fixed in advance—for example a spring deadline in mid‑March for a summer meeting, a fall deadline in mid‑July for an autumn review, and a winter deadline in mid‑November for a winter meeting. Submitted proposals undergo review by staff and trustees, and only those aligned with the funding priorities are considered.
In short, if your nonprofit is centered in Ohio (especially the Cleveland region) or tackling issues of equity, culture, environment or civic life, and you have a well‑thought‑out project that builds structural capacity or reaches underserved communities, this may be a strong match.
